Why your personal brand matters, now more than ever.

This week news broke that Joe Rogan has concluded a deal with Spotify. He plans to move his podcast exclusive to Spotify by the end of the year. If you want to listen to Rogan you can only listen through Spotify. How much money changed hands in this deal hasn’t been disclosed. It’s rumoured to be around $100m. Lucky Joe, who already makes about $1m per episode, currently on episode number: one thousand four hundred and something. Even more powerful, is that this news sent Spotify’s stock price up by 10%. They made about $3bn on the deal. This is a smart play by Spotify who’s looking to capture some of exploding Podcast market.

Gary Vee who we featured in last week’s Lifestyle Designer’s Digest called it 18 months ago.

How does one dude with a garage radio station create such a large influence? Technology. And he had an acting career and commentated MMA. But it’s the ability that technology has provided everyone to be able to leverage at scale.

Do you have a cause that you care about?

You’re reading this on the same technology you can create and communicate to 4.5bn people with.

But it’s noisy out there!

Yes. Tech’s accessibility creates challenges. Everyone has a voice and a platform. Yes, there is competition. And there are opportunities.

If you have a “thing” – start your thing.

If you don’t have your “thing”, spend some time asking yourself some deep questions. If you want to make an impact and see a change in the world, it starts with you.

And me.

We have to do it ourselves.

We have to live as the change we want to see in the world. No one is coming to save us. Time isn’t waiting for us.

None of us thought we’d get this age this quickly.

Do you want to have meaningful conversations with people whose opinions you think matter? Start that podcast right now, from your phone.

Start a mom blog.

Take and share your photography.

Have a song that needs singing, or poetry that the world needs right now? Create on Instagram.

Press record.

So many tools exist to make the creation process smooth and looking slick. Learn the tools. Outsource the stuff that you don’t like to do. Someone else may love the opportunity to collaborate with you or need the work at the moment.

If you haven’t found your thing yet and don’t even know where to start, here’s my two cents:

  • Don’t start something that’s not a full yes for you.
  • Find out what your highest values are.
  • Work on projects or pursuits that align with your values.
  • Don’t start something where the only purpose is to make money.
  • Create something that will make the world better in some way.
  • Your thing shouldn’t feel like work.
  • Your thing doesn’t have to be the money-maker.

If you need help through this process, I documented the journey I went through to get clear on my personal brand.

It’s noisy out there. So you need to ensure that you’re speaking to the right audience. If you don’t want to get drowned out make sure you’re clear on your personal brand. Know who your story is for. Let your tribe know how you plan to lead them. I’ve created an offer on our Personal Brand Masterclass if you want to start making a ruckus with your thing. Click here for the offer.

Find your story, and use tech to leverage your voice.

You may not do $100m exclusivity deal. Most of us don’t want that anyway. But, through technology, you can add value to a few hundred people who care about what you care about.

The only thing that’s been certain over the last few months is that nothing is certain. Your job, your government, your industry. If you’re feeling like it’s time to pivot, get clear on your personal brand and start following your highest joy!

Till next week,

Sending love from Guatemala.

Other Content I’m working on or enjoying:

My journey as a new “parent” – my thoughts and decision to have a vasectomy and my new relationships as a parent to two kittens.

Healing caught on camera. – Only recently have I started to become interested in energy. How it moves through a quantum network, which we’re all a part of. This is how manifestation and The Law of Attraction work. It’s also normally energetic knots or blockages that cause illness and disease. I am interested in how we use this understanding to heal ourselves. Drugs to treat causes or digging deeper to discover the symptoms. Our bodies are amazing self-healing machines. Illness is a signal letting us know something is out of alignment. This video shows this healing process in action.

A quote I’m pondering:

“Everything is of God including fear, fear just refuses to believe that it is.”
